ODAY (oh•day) v. to rise, as to a new day
A first generation Iraqi who became the youngest couture designer to launch a namesake brand from LA, Oday Shakar has dressed notables from Sandra
Bullock to Miss Iraq and has designed everything from the trend-setting Von Dutch trucker hat to Golden Globe, Grammy and Emmy gowns. While living in
Baghdad, Shakar sought solace and guidance from an aunt , who instinctively recognized his artistic inclination and chose to mentor him in draping, pattern making, and sewing.
His exposure to strong women from that moment on, inspired him to create not just clothes or gowns, but a way for them to express themselves. With over ten
years of experience as a designer both independently and at other labels, Shakar launched his own brand at NYFW in September 2016 with his SS2017 collection
Unveiling, and followed with two more seasons, including a Resort 2018 collection.
Inspired by his heritage and upbringing as an Arab American, Shakar fuses Western and Middle-Eastern influences and perceptions of beauty, for a look that
transcends cultures, time, and rules.
